Why TVET Education is important in Today’s Economy
ACROSS has been providing technical vocational education and trainings to Lake State’s vulnerable youth, taking into account young women, for the past 2 years. The young people have improved their livelihoods by becoming competent in artisanal pursuits. As a result, youth unemployment has declined, and female youth have been encouraged to pursue careers in male-dominated TVET fields based on their potential and interest.
State Ministries of General Education and Instruction (SMoGEI), State Ministry of Labor, Public service & Human Resources Development (SMoLP&LRD), State Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare (SMoGC&SW), State Ministry of Youth and Sport (SMoCY&S), State Ministry of Animal Resources, Fisheries & Tourism (SMoAF&T), and State Ministry of Cooperatives & Rural Development were among the six honorable state ministers who attended ACROSS’s stakeholder TVET policy orientation workshop on November 4th – 6th , 2024.
87 participants (10 female, 77 male) were drawn to the engagement. Plan International, Disabled Agency for Rehabilitation & Development (DARD), Diocese of Rumbek (D.O.R), Women Aid Vision (WAV), and other humanitarian groups in Lake State were represented, along with representatives from the private sector, prisons, and the Army, as well as seven county executive directors, each of whom had their own county education director and RRC coordinator. When it came to TVET implementation in South Sudan, particularly in Lake State, ACROSS was ranked first.
Stakeholders were given an orientation on TVET policy after ACROSS presented the TVET implementation review in Lakes, which featured many success stories. Below are a few of the case studies.
ACROSS received recognition for addressing the labor market’s skills gaps. The education and skills provided to Lake State young people were appreciated by the stakeholders since the beneficiaries are allowed to select particular career routes as soon as possible and are practical and hands-on.
The representatives of UNESCO, the TVET ad hoc coordination committee, and the honorable ministers praised ACROSS’s efforts and pledged to keep up the collaboration. They recognized that TVET programs are a great method to support career development and lifetime learning, as well as giving TVET graduates opportunity to grow in their careers and remain competitive in the labor market.
